Grand Prix Evolution: 2001 Season Update Teaser

After more than 1 month's full-time work on this mod, I'm excited to present you: the Grand Prix 2001 for Automobilista and rFactor. All cars are faithfully recreated based on the legendary Grand Prix 4 game released in 2002. This will be part of the Grand Prix Evolution mod. The update will be released soon after all the testing and final works are finished.

If you don't know about the Grand Prix Evolution mod yet, you can watch its trailer here.

Stay tuned for future updates!

Here is the comprehensive list of changes:

    - Combined individual body part meshes from the original game into a single body part mesh. Removed unnecessary body part damage meshes, as car body break-offs during collisions are not supported in AMS or rFactor.

    - Carefully reapplied smoothing to all cars to achieve a perfectly smooth look for the car bodies.

    - Fixed all UV overlapping issues in the original model, enabling the ambient occlusion to be baked onto the textures.

    - Fixed all UV mapping issues present in the original mesh, including misaligned UVs, incorrectly mapped body parts, and improperly unwrapped UVs, greatly improving the cars' appearance.

    - Addressed numerous topology problems in the original mesh that caused an uneven look for the car bodies.

    - Remapped UVs for the rear body parts and rear wing, now featuring highly detailed carbon fiber textures.

    - Adjusted the cockpit width of the Sauber, Prost, BAR, and Benetton cars, as the original cockpits were too wide or too narrow.

    - Remodeled all cars' rearview mirrors to enhance their detail.

    - Remodeled all cars' engine air intakes to make them look more realistic.

    - Increased the body height of some cars, as the originals appeared too close to the ground.

    - Altered the shape of some car body parts to prevent collisions with other meshes.

    - Fixed numerous asymmetry issues present in the original mesh.

    - Added body damage meshes for all cars that will be exposed after heavy collisions.

    - Numerous other small fixes.

rFactor F1 Challenge

In 2021, I spent weeks to port the classic F1 Challenge 99-02 into rFactor, its successor. I am surprised that no one did this before (maybe someone did but I didn't find it ?). The most difficult part during the conversion is to make all car's cockpit display work properly, because the cockpit info display methods in F1C and rFactor are quite different. Static drive arms are added, they don't look as good as the F1C's animated driver hands, but its quite close. I tried to include as much elements from F1C as possible, from UI sounds to the grid girls...

Unfortunately, this mod is not allowed in overtake.gg formerly racedepartment.com, due to copyright issues. So if you really want this mod, please leave a comment including you e-mail, and I will send you the mod.

Making Grand Prix 2 Papermodel

Almost 1 year ago I made the "Grand Prix Evolution" mod for rFactor. As a result of making this mod, I got the Grand Prix 2 car 3D model in my computer. Now I have successfully transformed this 3D model into the paper model template and finished my test build. The job was done with a barely working printer, 2 pages of A4 paper, glue, and scissors. This is only a test build, through the making, I found several issues that need to be improved in the template. I will put the link to the template in the description below, you can download and build your own GP2 car! If you have any suggestions for improving this papermodel, feel free to post your comments!
